2026-05-21 @ 11:00 - 12:00
Dear all,
The Neurosciences axis invites you to the conference of Dr. Maria Ioannou, University of Alberta, Thursday, May 21 at 11 a.m.
The conference is offered in a hybrid format, in person at the CHUL, amphitheater Fisher and broadcast on zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89533400887).

For students, a meeting with free lunch boxes is planned just after the conference if you want to discuss with him. Thank you for answering me as soon as possible to register for this meeting, places are limited to 10 students.
Here is the title and summary of the presentation:
Title : Lipid Dysregulation In Neurodegenerative Disease
Abstract : Dysregulation of lipids is a common feature of neurodegenerative disease. But how lipids contribute to disease pathology is largely unknown. Here, I will discuss how neuronal death in Alzheimer’s disease is driven by a failure to efflux peroxidated lipids, those damaged by oxidative stress, on ApoE-positive lipoprotein particles. I will then describe how defects in sphingolipid metabolism promote the propagation of alpha-synuclein pathology in the brain in Parkinson’s disease. This work provides important new insight into how lipids contribute to neurodegenerative disease.
