LOEX’s 40th anniversary

It is now time to officially register for the LOEX Centre’s 40th anniversary celebrations. Please visit the link to the transaction platform: https://event.fourwaves.com/loex
LOEX will celebrate its 40th anniversary in Québec City on October 17–18, 2025.
The first day of festivities, Friday, October 17, will be dedicated to scientific conferences presented by key international leaders in the field of regenerative medicine. We will welcome participants to the Integrated Cancer Centre (CIC), located on the Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus site, for the entire day. (See the list of speakers below.)
The second day, Saturday, October 18, will focus on discussions between researchers and their teams—past and present—presentations from some alumni, as well as testimonials from patients treated with tissues produced at LOEX. The meeting will also take place at the CIC for the presentations. Afterwards, we will head to the Palace Royale to conclude with a cocktail reception (5 à 7) followed by a banquet-style dinner.
We invite you to join the LOEX 40th anniversary Facebook group to keep up with developments. We encourage all members, including LOEX alumni, to add participants to this group so we can reach everyone who has been part of LOEX.

The Organizing Committee
List of Friday’s speakers:
Sally Hynes, Children’s Hospital, Vancouver (University of British Columbia): Dr. Hynes is a plastic surgeon who has treated burn patients with bilamellar reconstructed skin in the context of our clinical study.
Sylvie Ricard Blum, Université Lyon 1: Dr. Blum and her team study partners of extracellular matrix proteins and glycosaminoglycans.
Hasan Erbil Abaci, Columbia University: Dr. Abaci uses advanced 3D reconstructed tissue models to study the skin’s microvasculature and interactions between approximately 50 cell types, including immune cells.
Penney Gilbert, Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Toronto: Dr. Gilbert’s laboratory aims to restore skeletal muscle function by harnessing the potential of muscle stem cells. They propose a miniature disk-based cell culture model to advance their research.
Graziella Pellegrini, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy: Dr. Pellegrini is a pioneer in the culture of autologous limbal stem cells used for corneal regeneration. Her team is also active in the field of gene therapy to treat patients with epidermolysis bullosa.
Alexandra Margarida Pinto Marques, University of Minho, I3Bs, Portugal: Her research focuses on better understanding skin wound healing and pathological mechanisms through stem cells and the extracellular matrix. Dr. Marques and her team have developed 3D tissue models to design innovative wound-healing strategies.
Derrick Gibbings, University of Ottawa: Dr. Gibbings works, among other topics, on autophagy and extracellular vesicles.
