Dre Manon Defaye « Pain in Colitis: How does inflammation shape visceral sensitivity ? »

2024-10-31 @ 11:00 - 12:00

Le jeudi 31 octobre à 11h, la Dre Manon Defaye, candidate au poste de professeur sous-octroi, donnera une conférence intitulée « Pain in Colitis: How does inflammation shape visceral sensitivity ? »

au CHUL (Amphithéâtre Fisher) et sur Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81391126551).

Pain and inflammation are two integrated biological responses that enable host protection during injury or infection. Inflammatory pain is adaptive and protective; however, it can persist even after resolution of the inflammatory response. This is often observed in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. IBDs are chronic relapsing and remitting inflammatory diseases associated with abdominal pain. While significant improvement in IBD therapy has been made to reduce intestinal inflammation, a large subset of patients continues to experience pain, including visceral hypersensitivity despite being in endoscopic remission, suggesting a high level of neuroplasticity in the ascendent pain pathway during acute and recovery phases Understanding the complex neural pathways and molecular signaling involved in visceral pain perception is crucial for developing targeted interventions and improving patient outcomes.
